Chemical bag man bailed

Greater Manchester Police have bailed a man who carried two bottles of chemicals onto a plane.

At 9.27am on Monday 28 September 2009, officers were called to terminal two at Manchester Airport after reports of a strong smell coming from a bag about to be loaded onto a plane.

The bag was removed and found to contain two bottles of a chemical, which had leaked.

Examination of the chemical revealed it was Ethylamine.

A man was arrested on suspicion of endangering an aircraft and has been bailed until Monday 5 January 2010.

Following the arrest police searched a house on Bellot Street in Cheetham Hill, where a bottle similar to the chemical recovered from the plane was found. This was stored safely and GMP was satisfied it posed no risk to the public.

GMP currently believe that this incident does not have any links to terrorism.
