Thieves rob disabled man’s scooter

A van with a mobility scooter inside was stolen while its owner was at work in Stalybridge.

Between 4.15pm and 5pm on Friday 18 September 2009, the 52-year-old victim was away from his office on Tame Street and had locked the building.

Thieves broke into the office, took keys to his Volkswagen Caravelle van and stole it. The victim’s mobility scooter was in the back of the van.

The van that was stolen was a Silver Volkswagen Caravelle registration B11 BFB.

The mobility scooter, which was in the back of the van, was a NHC ROYALE 4 IN SILVER.

Police Constable Sajid Pervaiz, based at Hyde Police Station, said: “We never underestimate the repercussions any crime can have on victims’ lives and in this case it has had a serious effect on their quality of life.

“These thieves have deprived a disabled man of a specialised and essential piece of equipment worth thousands of pounds and they must be caught.

“If you know who is responsible or the whereabouts of the scooter, please contact me.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police in Hyde on 0161 856 9484 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
