Libraries celebrate Black History Month

STOCKPORT Council’s libraries are helping celebrate Black History Month with a series of themed events based on the life of famous circus entertainer Pablo Fanque.

Black History Month StockportThe events support this year’s Black History Month (BHM) theme ‘Music and Arts Connecting Communities in Neighbourhoods’.

Children aged 11 and over joined in the fun at the first of these events – a Circus Skills workshop held at The Heatons.

Other events include a Big Top Storytime and Fun event on Friday 16 October, from 2.00pm at Reddish Library for under fives, and a Crafty Clowns Craft Session on Wednesday 28 October, from 2.30pm at Edgeley Library for children aged five to 11. Both events are free.

Councillor John Smith, executive member for Leisure, said: “Stockport’s Libraries have always played an important role in Black History Month by organising interesting events for our young people and their parents. As well as attending the events I urge people to take the time to read the ‘Black History Month Read More’ themed book collections that are available in a number of local libraries.”
