African mobile giant sponsors United

AN AFRICAN telecoms firm has signed a five-year partnership deal with Manchester United.

Globacom Limited, which sponsor the national teams of Nigeria and Ghana, will now work closely with the club to bring three top West African youngsters to train at the United academy.

As part of the deal the firm will now also be offer mobile phone deals in Benin Republic, Ghana and Nigeria.

“At Globacom, we have consistently played a leading role in identifying opportunities and providing platforms for positive transformation of youths through football. This new partnership with the world’s most famous football club will no doubt give impetus to the quest by kids in Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic to become world stars,” Paddy Adenuga, executive director of Globacom, told This Day.

United fans from West Africa will now also have the chance to win a visit to Old Trafford to watch one of 14 Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup games.

Globacom currently has 28 million subscribers accross Nigeria and Benin Republic, and is launching a Ghanian network this year.
