Robbers hit taxi firm

ROBBERS armed with a gun demanded money from a man working at a taxi firm in Burnage.

Just before 5.30am on Thursday 5 November 2009, two men walked into the office of Kingsway Private Hire on Lane End Road through a door normally used by staff.

They knocked on an internal security door and when a worker opened it, they barged into the office.

One of the men pulled out a gun and demanded cash, threatening to shoot the 50-year-old worker if he didn’t give them what they wanted.

The worker told the robbers he did not have access to the firm’s cash and the men started pushing him.

They stole his mobile phone and ran off.

The robbers were described as black men, who were wearing balaclavas and were dressed all in black.

Detective Sergeant Dave McCulloch, based at West Didsbury CID, said: “It was terrifying for the worker to open the door and be faced by a man brandishing a gun.

“We are doing everything we can to make sure these men are caught and this deadly weapon is taken off the streets.

“The public’s help is vital and if you saw anything in the early hours of Thursday morning or know who is responsible, please get in touch with me.”

Anyone with information is asked to call West Didsbury CID on 0161 856 6090 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
