Oldham man hospitalised by assault

A MAN is fighting for his life after he was assaulted in Oldham.

Police were called to Cranbrook Street at its junction with Lees Road shortly before 8.15pm on Thursday 12 November 2009, following reports a man had been assaulted.

Officers attended and discovered a man, in his late 40s, with serious head injuries.

He was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital before being transferred to Hope Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Two men were seen running of towards Brewerton Road at the time of the attack.

One is described as being of mixed race, in his mid 20s, of stocky build and with a bald head.

The second man is described as skinny and was wearing a red balaclava.

Detective Inspector Javid Pervaiz, of Oldham CID, said: “This man has suffered very grave injuries as a result of this assault.

“I would encourage anyone who may have seen what happened or who knows who is responsible to come forward.

“All information will be treated in strict confidence.”
