Police want help identifying a possible kidnapper

POLICE want the public’s help in identifying a man who assaulted a woman in Rochdale.

Between 2:30am and 3am on Saturday 28 November 2009, a taxi driver and his two passengers saw a man kicking a woman on the floor on Tweedale Street.

The woman got up and ran to the taxi to ask for help but the man told the taxi driver, in no uncertain terms, to leave, claiming she was his girlfriend.

The woman disputed this fact and said: “I’m not his girlfriend, he will kill me.”

The taxi driver then dialled 999 and the man grabbed the woman by the hair and dragged her into the back of his white Mercedes, which was parked at the side of the road.

He drove off at speed down Freehold Street.

The man is described as about 5ft 10ins tall, slim, with short black hair. He was Asian, around 25-years-old and wore a hooded top with white writing on it.

The woman was also Asian but around 18-21 years old. She was small and slim, with short black hair and glasses. The taxi driver says she was wearing pyjamas and a pink dressing gown, however, the passengers claim the girl was wearing a checked coat.

The car was a white Mercedes with a black roof with part of the registration reading either ‘MY’ or ‘MG’.

Detective Sergeant Graham Hook said: “This woman could be in grave danger and we want to identify both of them as soon as possible.

“If you have any information at all please contact the police.

“You can speak to Rochdale CID on 0161 8564644 or the independent charity, Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
