Stranger raped teen during a lift home

A MAN raped a woman in Chorlton, Manchester, after offering her a lift home.

The 18-year-old woman had been out with friends on Saturday 12 December 2009, but around 3:30am she found herself on her own.

Around 3:45am, the victim was outside Abbey National on Barlow Moor Road when a man in a silver car pulled up beside her.

She was on the phone to her dad and the driver spoke to her and then her dad, explaining he would drive her home.

The victim got in and a short way into the journey he began to touch her.

The man did not drive her home, instead he took her to the junction of Cundiff Road and Hardy Lane where he attacked and raped her.

The woman managed to get out of the car and find her way home.

The driver is described as Asian, between 20 and 30 years old, of large build, bald with a round face and stubble.

He wore dark tracksuit bottoms, a silver and grey t-shirt and a dark tracksuit top.

Detective Constable Chris Broad of West Didsbury CID said: “This man has taken advantage of the victim, by appearing to be helpful offering to take her home. He even had the gall to assure her father he would take her home.

“This man is clearly predatory and we need to catch him quickly. We are working hard to find him, but we know there were a number of other people around at this time.

“There could be vital witnesses we have not yet traced, so please if you were in the area at the time please get in touch.

“At this time of year, there will be an increase in people going out. Please take care when getting home, make sure you stick with your friends or plan your journey home in advance.

“Taking a few simple steps will keep you safe.” Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 6153 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
