Mottram woman held at knife point

A WOMAN was held at knifepoint during an attempted robbery at a post office in Mottram.

Shortly after 2pm on Wednesday 23 December 2009, a woman was working behind the post office counter on Mottram Moor when two men ran in.

One man was holding a knife and grabbed a woman in the queue around the neck with one arm and held the knife to her throat.

He shouted ‘don’t touch or press anything or she’ll get it’.

The second man waited by the door throughout the robbery.

The woman working behind the counter pressed the alarm and both men ran out empty-handed. One ran along Stalybridge Road and the second ran up Hyde Road towards Hattersley Estate.

The man with the knife was described as being of mixed race, 5ft 10ins tall, of slim to medium build with a slim face and large nose. He had a number of teeth missing.

The second man was described as white, around 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins tall, boyish looking, between 20 and 25 years old, of medium build with short wavy blonde hair.

Detective Constable Pete Slater of Ashton CID said: “We have been given some distinctive descriptions of the men who committed this crime.

“The fact they could easily threaten an innocent bystander with a knife means they are dangerous individuals, but I want to reassure local residents we are doing all we can to find them.

“What we need is some help from any members of the public who were in the area at the time or who saw the men running off from the shop. Any information could be vital to our investigation and could help us catch these men.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 9254 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The Post Office is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this robbery.
