Bury hosts Holocaust Memorial Day service

A SERVICE is being held in Bury as part of Holocaust Memorial Day 2010.

The event, which will be held at the Radcliffe Civic Suite in the greater  Manchester  town on Wednesday 27 January, is being  held to mark the 65th anniversary of the liberation of concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

An international annual anniversary, Holocaust Memorial Day gives local people the chance to pay their respects to the millions who lost their lives because of Nazi torture and oppression.

Community figures, faith leaders, local people and school children are able attend the Bury event.

The theme of this year’s memorial day is the Legacy of Hope. People who suffered due to the Holocaust at the hands of the Nazis will be giving accounts of their experiences.

Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz, which was the largest concentration camp, in January 1945.
