Cancer charity needs Manchester runners

By Will Astbury

A CANCER charity is asking for sporty volunteers to take part in The BUPA Great Manchester Run on its behalf.

The Lymphoma Association, the only specialist UK charity that provides accurate medical information and support to lymphatic cancer patients, their families and friends, wants people to run under its banner and help raise some money for an important cause.

The 10-kilometre run, which is part of a series of events that take place up and down the country to raise money for cancer, will start in Manchester city centre on Sunday 16 May 2010. More than 36,000 people took part in the run in 2009.

Lymphoma is a cancer that begins in the lymphocytes of the immune system and develops into solid tumour.

It is currently the sixth most common cancer diagnosed by clinicians in the UK and the most common in the 15 to 30 age group.

In the UK, almost 1500 cases of Hodgkin lymphoma and 9500 cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma are diagnosed each year.

It is estimated that approximately 60,000 people in the UK are currently living with the disease.

If you’d like to take part get in contact with Lymphoma Association’s our fundraising team via 01296 619419 or fundraising@lymphomas.org.uk. The deadline for applications is Friday 5 February 2010.
