Inspirational Muslim women come to Manchester

A NATIONAL roadshow which promotes positive role models of Muslim women is coming to Manchester Town Hall.

Our Choices, which is being held as part of International Women’s Week, will offer women and girls from secondary schools across the city the chance to meet interesting and inspirational Muslim women.

The role models come from a diverse range of backgrounds working in a variety of jobs including the police, the health service, engineering, the media, the arts, business and the community.

The youngsters will be able to have informal discussions with these inspirational characters and gather useful and practical information about local opportunities for further education, training and employment.

Inspired Sisters, the South Manchester multicultural resource centre and support group which is hosting the event, is also encouraging parents, guardians and other family members to attend as it recognizes the important role they play in supporting young women to fulfil their ambitions.

There will be an opportunity for parents and guardians to meet each other for a discussion on their role whilst the youngsters are with the role models.

Speaking to Manchester Mouth, Fajer Rabia, managing director of Inspired Sisters, said: “This project is important because it truly changes people’s views of our communities, raises the aspirations of young people and encourages them to choose positive career paths.”

Our Choices is open to young people, men and women of all ages and from all communities and backgrounds.

It takes place in the Great Hall at Manchester Town Hall from 9:30am to 1:30pm on Thursday 11 March 2010.

A vegetarian and halal lunch will be provided and there is also wheel chair access.

The event is free but there are limited places. To reserve your place contact Inspired Sisters via or 0161 224 9090.
