Gallery hosts world event for women’s day

A GLOBAL event is being held at StockportArtGallery to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The event, which is being organised by human rights for women organisation Soroptimist International, will feature music, song, dance and cuisine from across the world.

Community cohesion is the theme of this year’s event, which takes place on Monday 8 March 2010, so women from different countries, including France, Germany and Sri Lanka, will be giving short talks.

Guests will be encouraged to network, ask questions and discuss their own experiences.

They will also have the chance to go to the upstairs gallery houses to view the current exhibition by Alan Lowndes, the renowned Stockport born artist, who is famous for his depiction of Stockport streets, mills, parks and the iconic viaduct.

Representatives from Stockport’s twin towns of Béziers, France, and Heilbronn, Germany, have also been invited to make presentations, and they will also visit Hat Works, Staircase House, Stockport Story, and Bramall Hall.

The event is free but places are limited so you will have to book if you want to attend. To reserve a place contact Pamela Brown at the Soroptomists via 0161 439 1476 or by 26th February.
