Female student head-butted by robbers

A WOMAN was head-butted by two robbers in a park in Manchester.

At about 8.30pm on Sunday 21 February 2010, the 20-year-old student took a shortcut through Whitworth Park, Oxford Road, as she thought the park was empty.

The woman was attacked from behind by two men, who hit her on the back of the head and dragged to the floor by her hair.

She struggled and tried to get up but one of the men head-butted her twice.

The other robber grabbed her around the neck and covered her mouth to stop her screaming.

They threatened to stab her and demanded that she hand over her belongings.

She threw them her credit card, told them the pin number and the robbers ran off towards Moss Lane East.

The first robber was described as a black man, 5ft 6in tall and of slim build. He was wearing dark jeans, a dark hooded jumper, a large black and white chequered scarf and a large fake-looking diamond earring in his right ear.

The second offender was described as a black man, 5ft 6in tall, of slim build. He was wearing dark clothing.

The woman suffered bruising to her head, face and body.

Police Constable Chris Nield, from Longsight Police Station, said: “This was an extremely frightening and violent attack and the victim is understandably extremely upset by the experience.

“We are doing everything we can to catch those responsible and if you know something that might help, please contact me.

“While incidents like this are rare, we would like to remind people of some simple precautions – arrange transport home where possible or walk in a group and if you must walk alone, please try to keep to busy well-lit areas.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the robbery unit on 0161 856 9136 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
