WHO IS THIS?: If you recognise this man please contact Greater Manchester Police

AN E-FIT of an Asian man who attacked a woman in Whalley Range, Manchester, has been released in an attempt to trace him.

On Sunday 2 August 2009, a 26-year-old woman took a taxi from Piccadilly Gardens to her home in Whalley Range.

The taxi driver became lost but the woman said she could find her way home, which was two streets away.

It was around 2:50am as she walked along Russell Road, when the man grabbed her from behind and told her to give him everything she had.

She refused and he dragged her into a nearby garden and pinned to her to the ground, then punched her in the face numerous times, causing serious facial injuries.

The woman screamed and the man then got up and calmly walked away without any further attempt to steal from her.

The man was described as aged around 23 years old, 5ft 9ins tall, well built with short black hair and was clean shaven.

He wore a light grey sweatshirt with a crew neck, light blue baggy jeans and white trainers.

Detective Constable Heidi Cullum of Longsight CID said: “This was a savage and unprovoked attack on a lone woman, who was terrified by what happened.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and the woman was able to provide us with a good description of the offender, which has allowed us to create an e-fit.

“If anyone recognises this person, or has information about the crime, I would ask you to get in touch. The information you have, no matter how small may be the information I need to catch the offender.

“I would also advise people to be on be aware of their surroundings while walking alone at night and keep to well lit areas. If you feel as if you are being followed or are concerned for your safety, get to somewhere you feel safe and tell someone.”

Anyone with information should call CID on 0161 856 4262 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
