A MANCHESTER art gallery is hosting two events to celebrate Chinese New Year 2010.
The Chinese Arts Centre (CAC) is celebrating the dawn of the year of the Tiger by showcasing a special collaborative project and a traditional workshop.
“I have been working with a group of art students in University of Salford and the Chinese elderly from Wai Yin Society to create a three-meter long dragon for the celebration for Chinese New Year,” Ying Kwok, CAC curator, told Manchester Mouth.
“The final product will be exhibited in Chinese Arts Centre from the 13 February
to 13 March 2010.”
Chinese New Year’s eve falls on 13 February this year and CAC is also holding traditional calligraphy classes to get visitors into the spirit of the occasion.
As well as teaching visitors how to write in a traditional Chinese style, participants in the calligraphy work shops will also get a chance to do some Chinese tea tasting and lucky dips will also been given away.
The calligraphy and tea tasting sessions run from noon to 5pm – so pay a visit to the centre and give something different a try.
Those that can’t attend the new years celebrations don’t need to miss out either. The centre will be hosting two live music events on Friday 26 February 2010 as well!
From 6-8pm, Canton opera expert Ann Law and her students will be demonstrating their art to visitors and Kimho Ip will also be hosting a gig in CAC’s teahouse.
